The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its final unemployment numbers Wednesday and found that nearly 7 million people were out of work.

That’s down from 7.2 million in December and 6.7 million in November.

The unemployment rate rose to 5.9 percent from 5.8 percent in November, but that’s still well below the 5.7 percent rate in March.

The number of Americans who said they were unemployed was unchanged at 11.6 million.

Many of the workers who dropped out of the workforce during the Great Recession also are out of it now, the latest figures show.

The report said more people than ever are working part-time and that the number of full-time workers increased by 3.5 million between December and February.

It’s been a long road for many workers, with the unemployment rate climbing in the years following the recession to nearly 10 percent.
