By Steve DeGrawPublished October 07, 2018 07:54:49A federal lawyer is advising that Nys unemployment claims have been rejected by the New York State Department of Labor.

Attorney Christopher J. St. John says his client was contacted by a Nys State Department official who said that the state’s Department of Employment Services did not consider the application because the application was not “reasonably related to the job description.”

The attorney says that his client, a construction manager, filed an application for unemployment benefits in March.

The attorney says he is “confident that if this had been an application that had been filed by a construction worker, the application would have been accepted.”

He says that in fact, the state has not accepted any of the applications submitted by workers who have worked for Nies construction firm.

He also says the state is still working on its own review process for workers who had applications rejected, and that the agency is working with the Nys City Council on a new process for receiving applications.

State Department spokeswoman Anna Zwierl told ABC News that the department received the application, but the agency does not comment on individual applications.
